RESTRICTION
Clay Hill Arts Somerset, UK
23rd March – 6th April 2021
The Restriction exhibition at Clayhill Arts by The Correspondence Collective, curated by Amanda Lynch, took place in a set of old printer’s letterpress drawers. Each compartment hosted one of a thousand tiny pieces of art created by over 200 artists. The compartments measured from 3cm x 3cm to 6cm x 13.5cm and were spread across 10 draws. My work was featured in Tray 9 and Tray 10 in compartments measuring 3.5cm x 4.5cm.
You can see more of the exhibition on both the Clayhill Arts and The Correspondence Collective websites including the launch event livestream.

When creating work to the theme of Restriction for the exhibition, I thought about some of the limitations I already worked with in my everyday practice and how I could amplify them.
Instead of going out with only three or four rolls of film, I took only one pack of 10 polaroids. I also restricted myself to walking a pre-planned route and by setting a time of one hour to wander. I also used monochrome film to limit my colour palette to black and white and limited myself to the size and capabilities of an Instax Mini camera.
Size comparison of original polaroids 8.6cm x 5.4cm and printed miniatures 4.2cm x 2.7cm.
