Not My Beautiful House Kingston Upon Thames, UK

01/Sensory was an exhibition featuring artworks created by swapping work made to the theme of ‘blue’. It was organised, produced and curated by The X-Collab.

My Initial Response

When I thought of sensory, I thought about self-touch and pushing the limits of self-touch to self-induced pain. In the black and white polaroids I'm clenching my fingers to the point that I can't take it anymore (same in the video in the next email) and in the square polaroids I am digging my hands into my forearm and holding my arms in an uncomfortable position.

My partner for this swap was Maud Goldberg who’s work is based on ‘‘exploring the sensory of matter. From concept the work moves to an aesthetic response that is itself sensory in all its parameters.’’ She created a painting which inspired my final outcome, I directed photographs of myself exploring the sensory nature of black and white acrylic paint. I wanted to use the same polaroids I used in my initial responses
